OGL: a new network for legal online gaming operators in LatAm

Seeking to be part of a diverse network of online gaming providers and operators, 15 companies from five countries have already joined OGL – Online Gaming Latam

The initiative, driven by some of the leading operators in Colombia, Peru, Argentina, Paraguay and Costa Rica, comes as a consequence of the sector’s evolution in the region, where new and existing regulated markets continue to grow; most recently, as a result of the closure of land- based venues due to the ongoing pandemic, and the newly enacted regulations in several jurisdictions across Latin America.

As the industry’s interest in the online segment continues to grow, OGL (Online Gaming Latam) arises as a non-profit organization with a professional, modern, and fresh approach to the market. Its main goal is to look after the industry’s needs in every possible aspect, including online and live casino operations, online bingo, sports betting, digital betting, fantasy sports, eSports, as well as any other activity offered by its operators and providers, as long as they are directly related to the region.

So far, the companies that have become active members of OGL are the following: Colombia’s BetPlay, Wplay, MozzartBet and AquiJuego; Apuesta Total, MeridianBet, Inkabet and TeApuesto, from Peru; Il Palazzo, Casino Carnaval and Play 595, from Paraguay; Argentina’s Pálpitos, Jugadon and
2 Casino Del Río Online; along with Costa Rica-licensed Betcris.

They seek to “create a space in which operators and providers can boost public policies and initiatives aimed at promoting legality, social responsibility, and transparency within the industry in the region.”

“The spirit of OGL is rooted in constantly pursuing and promoting the exchange of knowledge and experiences among its members. Our goal is to implement best business practices, and to grant professional status to these gaming verticals across Latin America,” the members of the Administrative Council explained.

Furthermore, we intend to create a group of companies that reflects the region’s industry, so it is important to be able to rely on the efforts of all those legal online operators who share the network’s ideas about the importance of having a legal, safe and responsible gaming environment.”

Meanwhile, OGL officials have announced that the network will have a new category for providers, under which gaming suppliers will be able to join OGL as adherent members during a postlaunch stage. They also announced a series of activities for members, including exclusive virtual meetings with local regulators (particularly those in jurisdictions with soon-to-open markets); the creation of an OGL membership seal; awareness campaigns detailing the benefits of legal gaming over the lack of regulation; as well as industry meetings and networking opportunities to boost the sector’s efforts.

“Being part of OGL comes with plenty of diverse benefits, which we will be unveiling as we continue to put them into practice. We currently have much news to share and we hope that this public launch encourages more and more operators to join us. It is worth noting that participating in OGL is completely free of charge; the single requirement operators need to meet before joining the network is that they operate legally and that they make the contributions
required by the jurisdictions where they conduct business. The reason for this is simple: we strongly believe that the best way to create an environment where operators can carry out strong and smart investments is by building an industry that is sound, regulated, socially responsible and safe; and we want to make every effort to lead the way into that goal,” they explained.
